Blackout tattoos are a style that involves covering large areas of the body with solid black ink. They originated as an evolution of blackwork and as a radical alternative for covering old tattoos without resorting to laser removal.
Its modern roots go back to the 80s, when some tattoo artists began experimenting with filling entire areas in black to cover up previous tattoos ; over time it became a style of its own, influenced by Polynesian, Maori and neo-tribal tattoos.
Today, the blackout tattoo is one of the most extreme expressions of contemporary tattooing:

Things to consider before getting a blackout tattoo
- Think about commitment: Blackout lighting is difficult to reverse and highly visible. It's important to be sure about the style, the area, and the scope of the project.
- Choose the location well: Arms, forearms, legs, thighs, and torso are the most common areas. Extreme areas (full hand, neck, head) require even more consideration.
- Completion time: A forearm blackout session may require several sessions; a full sleeve or an entire leg, many more. We're talking tens of hours depending on size, density, and your pain tolerance.
- Specific care: The skin works hard to heal such a large area: you have to follow the healing instructions to the letter (hygiene, moderate hydration, no sun, no swimming pool, no scratching) and take advantage of the benefits of SkinkHunter.
- Realistic expectations: A well-installed blackout curtain may require occasional touch-ups over time (especially in high-wear areas). We'll explain what to expect in the short and long term.

Tell us what you want to cover, what area you want to block, and what aesthetic suits you (full blackout, bands, negative, geometry, etc.).
We create a sketch after booking.
After you pay the deposit, the artist studies your anatomy, your previous tattoos, and prepares a proposal with cuts, boundaries, patterns, and possible negative areas.
We'll give you a price and a session plan.
We calculate approximate hours, number of sessions, and total budget.
